Pastor Sarah Elizabeth Hanson Nietz, age 42, of Faribault, died on August 24, 2016 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Rochester.
Pastor Sarah Elizabeth, the daughter of Harlow C. and Jean M. (Malueg) Hanson, was born on April 3, 1974 in Rochester. She graduated from Fairmont High School, Luther College in Decorah, IA and Luther Seminary, St. Paul. She married Dr. Daniel M. Nietz on June 8, 1996 in Fairmont. Pastor Sarah was ordained in 2002 at Holden Lutheran Church, Kenyon. She served at Minneola Lutheran Church, Zumbrota for 12 years and most recently served as the Lead Pastor at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Faribault for the past two years.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Dan Nietz of Faribault; three children, Anna, Maren, and Stefan Nietz; parents, Harlow “Butch” and Jean Hanson of Faribault; and one sister, Laura Hanson of Salem, VA; father and mother in law, Garry (and Rosanne) Nietz of Baldwin, WI, and Jean (and Nic) Ciola of Deep Haven; aunts; uncles; nieces; nephews and other relatives and friends.
Memorial services were held at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Faribault, on Monday, August 29, 2016, with the Bishop Steven Delzer, the Reverend Ashley Osborn, the Reverend Amy Larson, and the Reverend Regina Hassanally officiating. Interment at Minneola Lutheran Church Cemetery, Zumbrota.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to the Pastor Sarah Nietz Scholarship Fund.
