The Okabena Community Club formed a committee to raise funds for new Okabena city banners, and those banners are now in place in the community.
The committee has purchased new banners with funds raised as well as received through several donations. They also received grant money from the Heron Lake-Okabena Community Foundation.
There are three different banners, which have been placed throughout town, down Main Street and along the county road, in addition to the area around the school. A giant O, the Okabena “Old No. 1” fire truck, and the Legion Band car were selected to showcase the highlights of the community.
All three banners say “Welcome to Okabena, Nesting Place of Heron.”
The Okabena Community Club would like community members to voice their opinion on the new banners by completing a survey on this link: http://www.survio.com/survey/d/S9P1B4R3A8O0M5Q3H There is also a link on the front page of the Okabena website.
