After prevailing in a high-scoring Game 1 last Wednesday night (July 20) in Luverne, the Heron Lake Lakers won big in Game 2 Saturday afternoon (July 23) in Heron Lake to sweep a best-of-three First Nite/Gopher League amateur baseball playoff series over the Luverne Redbirds.

The Lakers (sixth seed from the First Nite League) claimed a thrilling 14-13 victory in Game 1 and earned a huge 12-2 win in Game 2 — eliminating the Redbirds (third seed from the Gopher League) and advancing to the Region 13C playoffs.

Heron Lake (9-17) is the No. 8 seed (out of eight teams) and travels to play top-seeded Worthington tonight (Wednesday, 7:30 p.m.) in Game 1 of another best-of-three series.

The Lakers, who drafted Pipestone A’s pitcher Bayley Colemer, will host Game 2 Saturday at 2:00 p.m., and Game 3 (if necessary) will be in Worthington Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
