Heron Lake finishes season at 9-19
Receiving solid pitching and stellar defense, the top-seeded Worthington Cubs swept the eighth-seeded Heron Lake Lakers in the opening round of the Region 13C amateur baseball playoffs last week.
Worthington won the best-of-three series 2-0 with 4-2 and 8-3 victories and advances to the next round, where the Cubs will play fourth-seeded Hadley beginning tonight (Wednesday). Third-seeded Milroy and seventh-seeded Jackson meet in the other half of the region’s “Final Four.”
Heron Lake finishes its season with a record of 9-19. It was the second straight season and third out of the last five years that the Lakers advanced to the region playoffs.
“We had another fun season and made a good run in the playoffs,” Lakers manager Chad Knutson said. “We beat a good Luverne team to get here and competed well against the top-seeded Cubs, who are loaded with great pitching.”
