Southwestern United’s girls’ basketball team competed in the annual Cedar Mountain/ Comfrey Holiday Tournament in Comfrey last week (Dec. 17 and 18), finishing up a busy schedule prior to the Christmas holiday break.
SWU played the Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity Bulldogs in the first round last Monday night, losing by a final score of 62-42. The Wildcats then took on the host CM/C Cougars in the third-place game Tuesday night, losing by a final score of 49-39.
“We played pretty well in the first half of both games in the tournament,” summed up SWU head coach Keith Place. “But we seemed to run out of gas a little bit in the second half each night and weren’t quite physical enough to stay in contention. However, this is a quality tournament with some pretty good teams that will hopefully help us down the road.”
In the tournament’s other two games, BOLD claimed a 62-38 victory over CM/C in the first round Monday and then lost to LP/HT by a final score of 49-47 in the championship game Tuesday.
SWU is now 1-7 overall and is off until Thursday, Jan. 3 when it travels to play Westbrook-Walnut Grove in Westbrook.
