The Tri County News, Nobles County Review, Murray County News and Fulda Free Press bring Harvest in the Heartland to our readers this week.
Harvest in the Heartland is our annual salute to agriculture. Among the featured articles in the special section are some of the area Farm Families of the Year, Century Farms and much more.
The Murray, Jackson and Nobles County Farm Families of the Year are featured in this special section. The Murray County Farm Family of the Year is the Risacher Family; the Nobles County Farm Family is the Gravenhof Family, and Curt Chergosky Family is the Jackson County Farm Family of the Year winner.
Several area residents have applied for and been recognized as Century Farm owners. The Minnesota State Fair and the Minnesota Farm Bureau recognize 134 Minnesota farms as 2016 Century Farms. Qualifying farms have been in continuous family ownership for at least 100 years and are 50 acres or more. Since the program began in 1976, more than 10,000 Minnesota farms have been recognized as Century Farms.
Among the area Century farms featured in our special section are the Burmeister Farm and Diemer Family Farm, both located near Heron Lake. The Raylaarsdam Dairy Farm, Chandler, is featured, as is the Wagner Farm near Rushmore. The Schilling, Wessels, Bergman Farm, located near Ellsworth, also shares its history.
Ron Obermoller, rural Brewster, shared information regarding a recent trip to Vietnam for the See For Yourself tour. The ten-day See For Yourself soybean checkoff trade mission, was made possible through the Minnesota Soybean Research and Promotion Council.
Several additional articles are also included in our special section devoted to agriculture.
