Cindy Owen was recognized on Monday, June 27, with the Austin Rotary Club Teacher of the Year Award.
Formerly a Special Education teacher at Heron Lake-Okabena-Lakefield and Southwest Start Concept School, Owen has been teaching in the Austin Public Schools since moving there in 2012.
The award is given to an educator who best represents the Rotary motto of “Service above self.” She was recognized for her 34 years of teaching, all in the Special Education field. The award comes with a $200 gift donated to the winner’s charity of choice. Owen donated her money to the Hormel Institute Cancer Research Center.
