Grand Opening postponed to August 27 at Round Lake Community Center

The Grand Opening is set for Saturday, August 27, at the Round Lake Community Center. The Greater Round Lake Community Association is celebrating this momentous event with several activities set for August 27. The date has been postponed due to medical reasons.

Tours of the building begin at 10:00 a.m., with several planned events, bingo, games, tournaments, bounce houses and train rides for the little ones to begin at 2:00 p.m.

Among the tournaments are a three-on-three volleyball tournament, darts, bean bags and kids free throw contest. See their Facebook page to sign up a team. Prizes will be awarded to the top three places.

Roast pork sandwiches and salads will be served from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m., and a beer garden will be set up in back of the building, along with a DJ for entertainment, from 6:00 until 10:00 p.m.

Anyone with questions is encouraged to call Becky Strandberg at 507-360-0733. Strandberg is the volunteer manager of the Round Lake Community Center, and has been working with the board to help plan the events for the Grand Opening, in addition to organizing volunteers to prepare the building for future uses.

The Community Center will be closed to everyone, including Fitness Center members all day on August 23, 24, and 25.

“We want to make it look inviting, instead of stark and institutional,” Strandberg said of the remodeling and redecorating that has been underway since the Greater Round Lake Community Association (GRLCA) purchased the building. Nearly all of the rooms have been repainted, and volunteers are creating a warm and inviting building that can be used for a variety of events and activities.

After the former high school closed in Round Lake in 2013, the GRLCA purchased the building and grounds in 2014. Shares were purchased by interested individuals, and the Association holds meetings to discuss projects and plans.

The building now contains a Community Room (the former Home Ec room), Lifelong Learning Center (former teachers lounge), Kidz Korner room, a Library, Fitness Center rooms, and historical and memorabilia rooms. The kitchen, cafeteria, gymnasium and Community Room are all available for rental. Contact Strandberg for details.
